Update [May. 2nd, 2009|04:05 am]
It has been a little under a month into playing on full tilt and AP and it has been a lot better then stars. Ill list some pros and cons.

Pros:
This is the only reason I switched sites. The games are a little softer then stars. AP lately has had a lot of games that aren’t even possible to win from just like stars. A lot of games above $71 have 2-3 top players in them, which make it impossible to win in the long run before rakeback. Full tilt most of the time I have noticed are really good under the $200s, but above that they are just like stars.

I love getting rakeback put directly into my account rather then fighting the stars bonus system. Even after you earn enough points for the prize you want. They still make you clear it. It is pretty annoying.

Cons:
Both sites software is below Pokerstars by far. The only advantage full tilts software has over stars is their note taking system. The color code notes are amazing for table selecting. On AP I don’t even take notes because it is the worst software ever…enough said. On AP I also have to resize the table every time it pops up, which really hurts my table count. I have to work alot harder to keep the same tables count as I could on stars(14 tables).
Games fill better on stars. They have the highest traffic of any site and it shows when you go from one site to another.

Sharkscope is still in testing stages with AP. They have my games count right around 1k, when I know its over 2.5k games. So hopefully they get that fixed soon.

Yes, Pokerstars has a lot more better features and makes your gaming more enjoyable, but I only care about one thing...making as much money as possible. And right now I need to go elsewhere.

I've noticed a lot of the players on AP have huge egos. Like this guy...a regular I run into often enough that loves to berate my play. Here is how smart he is. I know he shoves wide Blind vs Blind so one SNG I snap called him with JTo 6BB and he flips over A4o. I win and he berates me for the call. It’s like he thinks that calling and being behind is the worst thing ever. The next day he shoves 7bb w/ J4o and I call. I say “and you wonder why I call you light.” His comeback is "your poor you have to be staked." Ouch...Burned. Considering I have only been playing for one year, I am glad to be playing poker at these stakes.

At rakebacknation.com there is a rake race going on and 1st place is a VIP trip to the playboy mansion during one of their big parties. It is the Kandy Land themed party:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKo5SJYkh8w&

As of now, I am more then double second place! I hope that is a big enough cushion. I only need to hold on for 9 more days. So wish me luck or JSCRUB2010 luck...were sitting 1 and 2!

I just signed a lease in Uptown, MN, which is in minnespolis. I am extremely excited, but at the same time it’s the worst timing. This MN ISP crap is scaring me hardcore. I am just going to copy over hubs entry on this.

stars wrap up [Apr. 9th, 2009|03:58 pm]
Total Profit from playing: -2,970 dollars WWWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEE
Total with bonuses:around $16,000 + a 40'' TV
If i would average that across the whole year i would be making around $64,000 a year. This is while i would be losing a grand a month for playing. Once i start winning, which will happen this month, my profit should go way up. Below in the graph it is suposse to say "This is when i stopped playing higher then $119s".

My Heads Up game could be down from having too many tables going. With 12 tables going it is a lot harder to concentrate on HU. Lately i have been limiting the number of tables i play because i am getting used to APs software.

******Miscellaneous Data******
Total Cashes: $824,983
Total Games: 8,121
First Game (CDT)- 1-Jan-09
Last Game (CDT)- 8-Apr-09
Total Rake: $61,411
ITM: 36.77%
Av. Entrants: 6.0
Turbo Ratio (?): 97.29%
Av. % of field beaten: 55.97%
Most game played in one day: 198

In my 565s when I got into the money 8 times out of 10 I took 2nd. If I would have split 1st and 2nd in those 10 games it would of added $3390 to my profit.

This morning i woke up and turned my computer on. I noticed two of my monitors wouldn't turn on. After looking into it more i find out a graphics card is burned out. So i wont get much playing in until i get a new one, which means more golfing and studying for a couple days.

Enjoy my scattered thoughts & Good Luck at the tables!

and thats how the cookie crumbles [Apr. 1st, 2009|02:55 am]
I have one day left that I will be playing on stars. I have 296,000 VPPs and i am deciding elite isn’t worth it. I am waiting to get to 300k VPPs for my last bonus and maybe a couple more hours of play to get an extra 10,000 FPPs. The extra 10k FPPs is so I can order a TV. Below is the TV:

Samsung 40" 1080p FullHD

Once I hit 300k VPPs I get my last 3k bonus, which I have about 6 hours left of playing. Yesterday the games were as soft as I have seen them all year and they still were filling well. Because of this I caught myself loading too many games. I had 15 tables going at one time and felt pretty comfortable. I got in 198 games in yesterday, which is the most I have ever got in during one day. One downside to not playing stars anymore will be the number of tables I can play at once. Managing more then one site will cut down on table I can play. Also other site software is not nearly as nice as pokerstars. One of the sites I am going to is Absolute Poker. I hate hate hate their software, but ill get use to it.

Today I catch two guy colluding. I am 100% sure they were. I was on the bubble with both of them and they were doing really weird things. They were never calling each other, but they would call me wide. Also they did a lot of things, which prevented me from a ton of standard shoves. They would min raise the button and fold to the other person shove every time. After this SNG I got curious and did a little research on these two people. After the SNG I saw they both were registering in a different game that I was in. Here are two hands from that game.

About once a week I play in a cash game at a buddies house. It is more relaxing and for fun then making money put spare change is always nice. Here is a hand I luckboxed that was pretty funny.

UTG raises $2
UTG+1 calls
UTG+2 calls
CO calls
I am on the button with 36o and with all the dead money I make it $8 thinking most will fold. If I get it down to 1 or 2 opponents take away the pot post flop in position. Well everyone called and I was done with the hand until the flop came 663. UTG leads into me for about half my stack…I take my time make him think that I have an overpair and call. He puts the rest in on the turn(8)…I call he flips over 67 and the river is a brick. At least I run good in live play.

A couple hands later I lose a big part of my stack with a set of Ts to QJ on board AT2K9.

Ill end with a picture:

After bar drunken painting.

Road Trip: MN 2 FL [Mar. 22nd, 2009|11:42 pm]
I got back from Florida at 10am yesterday. It was an amazing break for everything. The only bad part of the trip was the drive. 24 hours in a van with 6 people while not being able to sleep isnt my favorite thing to do.

Here are some pictures from the trip:

Playing tippy cup at the hotel.

After i got done shotgunning a beer.

I dont know what we are doing here.

At a club...yay for $20 dollar cover charges to get it and $8 beers.

Out to dinner for a birthday. There was an airbrush place at the walmart down there. So i bought a $10 trucker hat that says vos.

Playing mini golf.

While at the mini golf place, there was a human maze and we gave it a shot. It was pretty fun.

Me and Laura

Next post ill talk about what i plan on doing the rest of the year with poker.

quick entry [Mar. 10th, 2009|02:15 am]
I am sure 98% of the people that read my blog read hubs, but if you haven't read this blog entry on table selection, i suggest reading it. http://jhub3000.livejournal.com/#asset-jhub3000-84368
After reading Hub entry on table selection I was curious how most of the top 6max regs were doing on stars this year. With how stacked every game on stars has been this year i was wondering how many other top players have been struggling at least on stars. I looked at about 10 people(some going for elite) and these are the numbers that came up.

games Av. Av. Av. Total
played Profit Stake ROI Profit
4,227 -$2 $137 -1% -$7,520
4,169 -$8 $153 -4% -$34,080
2,630 $16 $225 7% $43,184
1,958 -$7 $239 0% -$14,368
1,158 -$6 $339 0% -$6,744
1,872 -$6 $185 -1% -$10,549
1,818 $8 $153 0% $14,262
2,472 $3 $82 5% $7,025
6,249 $0 $102 1% -$1,172

This ended up pretty pointless because only three people have a decent sample size to go off of. But out of the three people with 3k+ games all of them are going for elite and all three are getting killed most likely from not table selecting enough.

But anyway i was mixing in a lot of 119s tonight because they were really soft. I still got killed...whats new. This supernova elite thing almost is starting to seem not worth it...

Over the weekend i was in the cities for the girlfriends birthday. It was a fun weekend. On my way home i stopped at Hubs and watched him play for a couple hours. As alway he played perfect and it made me feel better about my game.

Come Friday i will be leaving for spring break in Panama City, which should be pretty crazy. I planned on coming back and being able to 14 table because of all the studying ill get done. I am going with 1 guy and like 6 girls so that should be fun. I am sure there will be a lot of pictures taken so i will make sure to put some up.

#1 goal for tomorrow is to wake up by 9:30am and be playing by 11:00am. It is 2:41am right now

Figure this was a fitting picture because im sure i will be in a similar situation next weekend multiple times.

AAAYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! [Feb. 27th, 2009|03:15 pm]
I played 3 hours before i a left for the cities and a couple great things happened. #1 ended on a heater, which is always a great feeling. #2 i am out of the red for the 1st time since the 1st week of the year.

I just finished packing to go to the cities to go out with Hub and a couple friends and see my girl. While i am up there hub is going to watch me play a set of 12 to try and find any leaks.

I moved up on the 36-100 6max leader board to 3rd, which is $9,514 mostly from Feb.
I most likely will end the month with 230,000 VPPs, which is a good pace considering the stakes i played this month.

Good for now i need to get going...i leave you with a picture. This seems like a good picture considering the mood i am in.

There is a golf tournament that a couple friends and i play in every year in a small hick town. Its on a nine hole golf course and its guy/girl alternative shot tourny where there is kegs all over the golf course. I am the one doing the keg stand. Drink a little then go hit the little ball.

PEACE,
voss

This year is about more then making money... its about becoming a professional poker player. [Feb. 22nd, 2009|11:07 pm]
I have heard from a lot of people that they enjoy reading my blog so i will keep it up hopefully updating it 2ish times a month or more short entries.

My Daily routine:
I roll out of bed around 10:30ish am and make some food. I study a little bit before i start playing each day and try and start playing before 1:00 pm. I play until i get hungry or i take a break to play pick up basketball with some friends. Throughout the day play anywhere from 8-12 tables at a time. When there is a lot of regulars on i wont even sign up for 119s and higher just because there isnt much value in them. At times the 119s are softer then the 78s (mostly when Sparta is on) so i play them instead. When there is no regs on i will be banging out 12 tables and signing up for almost every game i can get into. Those are the best sessions, which sometime lead to me having 14 tables running(not on purpose). During Monday-Thursday i try and play 8-10 hour days because over a lot of the weekends i travel around to friends colleges, such as Madison, Twin cities, Chicago, and Milwaukee.

This month my average stake has been way lower then last month, but as soon as i start winning again i plan on moving back up just with much stricter table selection. Right now i have 210,000 VPPs with hope of having 240,000 by the end or Feb. That would mean i got 100,000 VPPs in Feb playing mostly 78s, which would be a good sign that i could get SNE by the end of Sept just mostly palying 78s.

Some thoughts on why i am on a 5,000 game break-even stretch:
Well for starters the biggest reason is not table selecting in Jan. enough. Hub recently showed me an article of how much good and break-even players effect your roi and the numbers shocked me. I was really surprised on how much break-even players effect your roi. Another reason is getting use to the 200/400 blind level. I was very rusty on this level, but it seems like the games on stars get there often, more then full tilt at least. I had a conversation with Hub today mostly about the 200/400 blind level. It is the hardest level to play because players ranges change so much. It really does make some bad players play better. Its hard to figure out people calling ranges and shoving ranges. Another reason is having to adjust to better players. All in all i have learned more these two months then i thought i would. I see my game develuping a ton and love waking up and grinding away.

This year is about more then making money... its about becoming a professional poker player. I do have goals for how much i hope to make this year, but this year is about building a career. Such as getting use to the swings. This will be a big one. I am slowly getting better at this and hope i will be neutral to the swings by the end of the year. Getting Supernova elite also is a big thing for me because of having 65% rakeback and defining myself as a poker player. The guaranteed income is amazing and is pretty much a high enough hourly wage to do this as a career even as a break-even player. Lastly is building a bankroll and starting to invest my money. I plan on playing under Hub until i have a 20k bankroll online and 6 months of living expenses.

Profit 09:
With bonuses and all I am up around 10.5 grand on the year. But the other side of this is profit for the year based on playing alone(no bonuses) is still in the red. From palying 78s and lower i have made almost 6k(10th on the sharkscope leaderboard for total profit $36-$100). I am pretty sure i will be #1 on the board by the end of the year because of the volume of games i get in each month. I rarely played lower then 119 in Jan so that profit is mostly from this month.

Thats enough for now...
GL all,
voss

ps i dont re through my blog entries so at times im sure i mis-spell a lot of things and have confusing sentences. I am a math guy not a English guy and i am too lazy to go through each entry.

I post pictures for it to be more personal...This is me(on the right) and a buddy in an intense game of tippy cup.

this is going to my last post unless i find out people are reading [Feb. 16th, 2009|10:08 pm]
this is also going to be a short post

One thing that bugs me is when decent regs bitch about running bad and say how good i run.
This guy named skill game was bugging me a lot tonight
He is probs a winning player but it shows that he isnt a good player after this.
I shoved 10BB AJo CO most standard shove ever and he calls with AK and i suck out...he then goes on to say this
$kill Game said, "SO BAD"
$kill Game said, "ITS SO FUNNY"
$kill Game said, "HOW BAD OF A PLAYER U ARE"
$kill Game said, "HOLY ****"

i respond
voss1313: it really shows how good a player is was he berates standard play ebcause hes tilting
voss1313: and i havent said **** to you ...i dont start **** for no reason
voss1313: i handle poker swings and treat everyone with respect if they show it to me

the next SNG i call his shove bvb 10BB with 55...and again he berates me

the sad part is he knows im coached by jhub

if your tilting and going to berate someone, even though its pointless, at least do it when i make a mistake and suck out

Someday when i buy excel for my desktop i will get better number on here for you guys

The swing is turning around i will talk more about my daily routine next post if there is one.
I am up a little on the year with $8k in bonuses cleared.

I am on the left playing 40 hands with a couple of friends...if anyone can tape two 40s to your hands and drink them in under 25 mins let me know

It's back [Feb. 5th, 2009|12:54 am]
The blog is back! Haha sorry i got extremely lazy with typing entries. I do have a couple reasons for not updating besides laziness. I had to give my laptop back to the college and have yet replaced it, which is a big one because i use to type these entries in bed. I have been trying to put as many hours in as i can these 1st couple months because of supernova elite. And my last reason is because its not fun talking about losing.

Review of 2008:
Well i didn't set any goals considering i started playing off of a fluke in May. I put $600 online and that turned into a career. I probably studied poker more then electrical physics last year. Within 9 months i am playing up to $565 per tournament while playing 10-13 tables at one time. So 2008 was a good year and i feel very lucky to make it as far as i have, but 2009 should be amazing.

In response to this graph posted by timeaft:

First off you have to understand i have been playing for under one year. Thats playing online poker in general. Outside of online poker i played maybe a total of 10 hours so you could says i was pretty clueless on the game. Second this graph is showing me from when i 1st starting playing. I believe I have my first ever Hand History, i did some things that i want to believe i didnt do. Also the graph compares my avg buy-in which with it ranging from $6.50-$565 is probably around $60 to Hub which is around $200. Also This January i got 3k games(half of the graph), which i was in a lot of games that weren't even profitable.

So far this year:
Right now I have -1% ROI over 3,266 games, which is -$7,707. I have cleared one $4000 bonus and should be able to get another by the end of the week. I don't have excel right now so i haven't been keeping track of hourly wage and exact profit.

I have review my Hand Histories a ton and any little spots i can find where i question even a little i find out the answer. But overall it takes me over 10 HHs to find a hand im curious about.

As for not making money:
I started this year thinking that getting super nova elite was going to be super hard. So I would join games where i thought my roi was 1-2% then a good regular would join on top making it not even profitable game. The games overall were really redica hard. They are starting to get better but i have been table selecting a ton and joining 5th-6th most of the time.

I got supernova in 21 days so and i am on pace to have elite by the end of august even with 3 weeks of break.

My good looking graph of 09:

Hope you guys like this,

It is back. [Dec. 15th, 2008|04:50 pm]
The blog is back! I should be back to updating the blog 2-3 times a week. I got through finals week, which was a ton of work. I had a take home final that took around 20 hours of work. I only had one in class final, which was in electronics. I wasn’t too worried about this final, considering I had the highest grade in the class without putting much effort into this class. Dealing with circuits just came easy for me like poker did. When I am interested in something it is easy for me to pick it up. I had a computational physics class last semester, which was only a 2 credit class that costed more time out of class then my 4 credit classes.

Programming was awesome when it worked, but have one little common wrong and here comes 30mins of searching through your code to find the error. I wish I was really good at it, but it wasn’t my best course. I did learn enough where I could write a program to run a simulation of say a 5% ROI over 5000 games. Then run that program 5000 times and get a great idea of downswings and find out how true that ROI would be. I know these calculations have been done tons of times, but it’s nice having the skill to be able to do this.

Now the school is over I have tons of time to study my game and get many hours of play in. This second half of December is going to be a month full of poker. I want to get some 8 hour days while also studying my game getting ready for 2009.

Hub and I have talked a lot about what we should do as for me next year. After a lot of calculations by Hub, we decided for me to go for Super Nova elite next year instead of mixing in a couple of the softer sites. Starting in January I will be playing all the high stakes $565 and lower. I will also be mixing in the softer 1Ks, which I planned on never doing, but it will help a ton at getting to SNE. Because of the higher stake games I planned on being under Hub for a while. Probably 6 months for sure, because of the need for a bigger bankroll and the variance is going to be so much higher. It is going to really be a mental battle, which will be a good test for me.

As for poker recently it was been a long break-even steak. Right now I am on around 1200 games break-even, which probably isn’t a very big one and I am 100% sure I will have longer next year, but it is my longest so far.

sorry havent posted in awhile [Dec. 2nd, 2008|01:26 am]
I haven’t had a chance to update the blog because of the holiday, homework, trying to make time to play, and friends. With finals week coming up I hope I will be able to make time to update the blog and play, but we will see. I need to make sure to grind out the last two weeks of class to make sure my grades stay up. I will say after next week I will have a lot more time to update it and will hopefully be playing around 40 hours a week.

This was a good long Thanksgiving break. I got to see a lot of friends from high school. With everyone being home it made for going out a lot, which is why I think I am getting sick.

I was planning on driving my mini through the Minnesota winter, but after one good snow I changed my mind after driving a block. It did not handle well at all and I said I am done with this. I currently am looking for a place to store it for 3 months and have decided to hold on to my blazer until the spring.

November wasn’t as exciting as October. I played a little more than last month, but I still was a little short of my goal for games played. I know I fixed a lot of small leaks, by spending a lot of time working on my game. Studying my HHs, reading books, watching hub play are all things I have been doing. I recently found a leak in my bubble play, which is huge considering the bubble is where the money is made.

In December I am going to study even more then I have been to get ready for 2009. I am hoping to find more leaks and get more things into memory so they all become automatic. I am planning on playing higher stakes as well. I am thinking by the start of January I should be playing all high stakes game up to the $555s. I am going to stay away from the 1Ks no matter how soft they are. It is just too hard to get a big enough sample size in for them to be worth the stress and the swings. Hub was estimating it taking 6 years to get 3000 1Ks in and that’s just for within +-5% your ROI.

If you haven’t read this post by Sparta about Variance it is a very good post: http://sparta45.livejournal.com/20355.html

Below is a graph that i found on the internet, which was pretty interesting. It just shows the chances of going broke vs how big your bankroll is. Which my brother is slowly learning, but hopefully this will put it in a better picture for him.

a steady up and down month [Nov. 24th, 2008|01:17 am]
It was a long weekend without a lot of online poker. On Thursday I went up to the cities and ended playing in a poker game with a couple buddies, who graduated college last year and the year before. I scooped the 5 dollar buy-in, while finishing almost a full bottle of captain. So I can’t say I was on the top of my game but, seeing how it was 5 dollar buy-in with friends it was for fun. I stayed up there until Sunday and on my way home stopped at Hubs house to watch the vikes game and see the house. His house was pretty sick and his new set-up once it starts working is pretty sick. He has two 30’’s in the middle and two 20’’s on both sides.

I am most likely going to fall short of my goals. I didn’t run like a god like I did in Oct. and I don’t think I will hit my number of games goal. I have a chance of hitting it because I plan on playing a lot this coming week. I have been really busy with school, but have class tomorrow and lab Tuesday and I am done until next Monday.

Today I played for 5.25 hours and got in 78 games, which in a little less than 15 games/hr. This is higher than normal because I only played 60s tonight. A couple stakies were on ftp so I figured get practice 8-10 tabling at the 60s would be fine for tonight. I lost $452 dollars before RB. November has been a lot of up and down. At least it doesnt look like it will be my first losing month.

I posted a bubble below where i saw the worst call i have ever seen. I really don't know what this guy was thinking. I am talking about hand #5. He over calls a call with A2s. I don't get it. Either he pictured in his head the flop was coming all spades or I was playing poker with Donald Trump.

Pretty rough bubble and after these I sometimes get a little mad, but this one i laughed off and signed up of the next one. That call still boggles my mind.

I signed up for classes today just in case this Bill thing passes. My lineup is looking pretty rough. I have Optics, Modern Physics, Quantum Mechanics, and some basic Sociogy class. I have been really busy lately catching up in my computer physics class, doing a lot of computer programing. The only reason i like knowing how to do this stuff is because you can make some good looking final papers. Now that wont help my poker career, but oh well.

Overall lately my winnings have only came from rake back or i am slightly down. It has been a lot of up and down over the last 400 games or so.

a lot to take off my mind [Nov. 17th, 2008|01:22 am]
I have been so busy, which is why I haven’t posted a blog entry lately. There has been a big decision in one of my last blog entries, which actually has helped me a ton on my decision about school next semester. The decision was mostly about the overall picture about leaving school to play poker for a living. I loved the decision because it showed me multiple points of view and showed true feelings on the topic.

Again I am not 100% of my choice here, but here are my thoughts laid out. I have talked to over 5 poker pros, who all of them have left school to play poker. Not one of them have said them even remotely regret leaving school.

If I was to not go back to school next semester, it wouldn’t be me dropping out of college…it would be me taking a semester off to figure out what I want to do. I would take the semester off to see if I could handle playing 40 hours a week. I would take the semester off to make money while I have this chance. People take a year off of school all the time to make money.

In America “the normal” is considered to graduate from high school go to college and graduate in 4-5, get a job and work until you’re in a financial situation where you get to retire. I have a friend that is from Switzerland where it is not out of the norm at all to start school 5 years after you are out of school.

My whole life I have gone the safe route…drinking, drugs, where to go to college, how to spend my money. I think for the first time I need to take a risk. I would love to do something I love to do for a living.

Here are some quotes from people that really have affected my thoughts recently.

This first one is from one of Hubs friends that commented on one of Hubs blog entries.

“I put myself through college playing poker and then stopped because I had this great vision of what a happy adulthood was like. 20 years later I can safely say it's all bullshit. The money I make from poker 4 hours a day allows me to spend the rest of my time studying music, volunteering at school and hanging out with my daughter. Fuck the timeclock, and the Saturday telecons with India, and the 3% raises, and the boss saying don't use such big words in emails...

I guess the question is why does a person get a degree? If your friend wants to go to college because he's 25 years old, and he feels like time is running out if he's going to be the world's greatest molecular biologist, then that's a pretty good reason. If I could go back to being 25 with my current bank account, I might do something like that. But for 90+% of people, it's some kind of validation for job-worthiness. If you got other options, well then fuck that. Make money, and if you want to go study something that interests you, do it because you love it rather than you need PetSmart to pre-approve you for assistant managerhood.”

Hub has never one time said to me that he thinks I should leave school. He has said what he thinks I should do, but has never told me what I should do. Just the confidences he has in me is helping me a ton.

“While you definitely make good points, I can assure you that he will be fine & make a lot more money than he would w/ his degree, while enjoying life a lot more and having the freedom of making his own schedule. Voss understands variance & he will get better at handlings swings along the way. As far as bankroll management & game selection, like playing SNGs, I have taught him everything I know about them. He's even more selective than he needs to be at the moment, which I think is a good thing for someone at such an early stage of their poker career. I'll be there to help him along the way if he needs it.”

-Hub

Here is a really extreme explain of a conversation.

“Conversation between me and someone else, we'll call him John:

John: How was your day today?
Me: It was just another average day. I made $2,400 playing poker. How was your day?
John: It was brutal. I sat in rush hour traffic an hour both ways. Then I got to work & everything was going wrong. The boss was on my ass all day, all for a measly $170 for the day. I sure wish I could play online poker like you. What a dream job that must be.
Me: Yeah I wouldn't trade it for the world. Want to go on the river tomorrow?
John: No I have to work.
Me: Oh yeah, sorry I forgot it's Thursday tomorrow & you don't get to make your own hours.
John: Yeah I hate my life. You got anything else fun coming up?
Me: Yeah I'm going to Puerto Vallarta at the end of the month. Then I'm going to Vegas in June for a few weeks. When I get back from that I'm going to go visit some friends in Philly in July & then I'm heading to Colorado in August. I'm planning on a trip to Europe at the end of the year if you're interested.
John: Sorry I can't. I already used up my 4 weeks of vacation for the year. Will you teach me to play poker?”

-Hub

Also a friend just sent me this link, which was a very good article and gives me more things to think about.

http://www.dangerlion.com/?p=291

I haven’t played a lot of poker lately because of having a couple tests recently, the semester about to end, and I was in Madison last weekend. I went to the badger gopher football game and it was a pretty crazy weekend. The gophers did nothing but disappointed me like all Minnesota sports.

Isnt the US a free country? [Nov. 12th, 2008|05:15 pm]
I'm sure most of you have already seen the recent developments of the UIGEA (gambling bill). For those that haven't, read these articles:

http://www.pokerlistings.com/treasury-department-finalizes-uigea-regulations-32656

http://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/press/bcreg/20081112b.htm

Basically, they're making 1 last push before Obama is in office. 2 years after the bill was passed, the regulations were finalized out of nowehere & Bush is expected to sign off on them. They are expected to be in place by December 2009. At this time the banks will be doing everything they can to detect "gambling" payments & prevent us from receiving our money from online poker, online sports betting, etc...

http://www.ickypeople.com/2008/11/huge-bush-gaffe-allows-obama-to.html

Summary: Once Obama is in office the new administration can overturn these regulations.

Now is our time to take action:

http://theleachlist.blogspot.com/2008/11/fed.html

Contact Obama @

http://answercenter.barackobama.com/cgi-bin/barackobama.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?p_sid=GWa49Kij&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0xMTIsMTEyJnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**

Please take the time to do this & don't be lazy. It won't take much time. Tell everyone you know to do the same, even friends & family members who don't play online poker. If they care about you, they should help, & every person that does this will have an impact.

Contact Your representatives and senators.

http://capwiz.com/pokerplayersalliance/home/

What you shouldn't do is overreact & start taking your money off of the sites. This is what a lot of people foolishly did when the UIGEA was originally passed & Neteller closed down to the United States. These sites aren't going to keep your money. They have a reputation to uphold. Even if the worst case scenario happened, & US players weren't allowed to play online sometime by December 2009, there would be announcements & a grace period would players would be allowed to get their money off. Chill out, keep playing, & start taking action & contacting those officials.

Also, if you haven't already, join the PPA! There is a link below.

Thanks for your time,

What a good two days.... [Nov. 11th, 2008|01:06 am]
I ended up buying that mini copper and I love it. It is so fun to drive. I am not used getting 35 miles to the gallon. I am more use to getting 10 and putting gas in my tank every other day. It’s weird wanting to be the one to drive to Madison this weekend. I am going there for the gopher badger football game. It should be a fun weekend.

Below is a quote that my brother sent to me. I thought it summed up a lot of my thoughts.

"It's weird to make a decision where everyone in your life disapproves, pretty vocally and directly. They said, "You've got one year left. Just do it." I had a full scholarship so I didn't have to pay for it. They asked, "Why don't you just get the degree so you can have it?" And I said, "You don't understand. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do and now I know. I have the answer and it's dumb to waste any more time." Demetri Martin, a comedian

The last two days have gone great. I have ran like a god, which is always fun. This put me back on track for my goals of the month. My total games goal isn’t on track for the month, but I still hope to hit that 1200 number. I try to get in as many 119s as possible when I can, but when other stakies are on I find myself either 8-10 tabling 60s or not playing. Getting homework done, cleaning the apartment, running errands, studying my game, or cooking are all things I try and do while I can’t play or games aren’t filling. I am always trying to stay busy and for the most part don’t waste my time with watching tv or playing video games.

Below is a hand that I play today and thought it was pretty interesting. It was either a really good call or a really bad call. Maybe in the long run it was a bad call, but this instant it was a good call. I felt like he would value bet any Ace instead of over shove 1200 into 1300. I figured if he hit a jack he would check behind. I thought about it for my whole time bank and the only hand I could put him on was a draw.
